Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly, Propolis, Benefits For Your Skin

Let me start out by saying I feel like there is something so intriguing about honey and bee products.  First of all, the fact that honey never goes bad is amazing in itself.  Second, I love the concept of knowing that the bees had to touch how many flowers to make the honey.  I’m sure it is a lot of flowers so somehow you are getting the benefits of those flowers mixed in with your honey.  Third, when bees work in a region say for example Australia and now you purchase Australian honey, you are gaining the properties from that honey with the surrounding flowers in that area.  I always like to read where a honey is from and what flowers the bees were working with.  For example, eucalyptus or orange nectar, and then imagine the healing benefits of that part of the world.  Anyways this is my visual take on honey and how I became obsessed with honey and all things bee products.

As explained in the paragraph above I am obsessed with bee products and it is why I chose to carry a bee product in my line. This post is going to feature the beauties and gifts given to us from the bees.  A pure gift from nature and why it is so important for the body.  I’m going to define the by-products from the bees and the benefits they provide for the body.  Also will give a breakdown of the ingredients in the elementLufu Bee Pearl Powder and the added ingredient of Vitamin C and its benefits for both your body and skin.

    What is Bee Pollen?

Bee pollen comes from the pollen that collets on the bodies of bees as they fly from one flower to another.  It is said that bee pollen can also contain bee saliva.  Bee pollen is known to contain vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, lipids and proteins.  Bee pollen can also be found in skin softening products that can be used for eczema or diaper rash. This is a wonderful gift from nature.

When consumed as a food, bee pollen does  seem to be nutritious. It’s a good source of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates. Thus why I chose to include this product in my line. Studies indicate that bee pollen could increase strength in the body and even slow down aging. Another plus to add to your skincare routine.

Bee pollen has also been recommended for:

    • alcoholism
    • asthma
    • allergies
    • health maintenance
    • PMS
    • enlarged prostate
    • stomach problems
Bee pollen is also known to give energy mainly when used in energy tonics. Some herbalists have found bee pollen to enhance athletic performance, improve allergies and asthma and reduce side effects of cancer.  There has been medical research done but it has not been concluded yet that bee pollen may reduce side effects of radiation therapy. More research is needed but I could see it working in a positive way for the body.

    (Allergies)

Added disclaimer bee pollen appears to be safe for most people, but if you have pollen allergies, you may have some reaction.  Allergic symptoms could include, itching, redness, shortness of breath, hives swelling and anaphylaxis. Bee pollen is not safe for children or pregnant women. Breastfeeding women should also avoid using bee pollen. If one is on blood thinners such as warfarin bee pollen may cause increased bleeding. Check with your doctor before taking bee pollen if you are taking over-the-counter medicines or prescription drugs.
Just to be clear we do not want to confuse bee pollen with natural honey, honeycomb, bee venom, or royal jelly. These products do not contain bee pollen.

    What is Royal Jelly?

Royal Jelly is created by the secretion from nurse bees in a colony to feed larvae and the queen bee. Because royal jelly is potent it is considered a dietary supplement and has a wide range of impact on women’s hormones. Royal jelly has been known to ease premenstrual and postmenopausal symptoms. As far as skin usage royal jelly is harvested from the queen cells of beehives and sold as a supplement or in skin creams to enhance collagen production,  and improve overall health. Modern science has lent some support to these and other traditional medicine claims however, more research is needed

Ingredients of royal jelly: 1/4 teaspoon

    • Calories: 2
    • Protein: 0 grams
    • Fat: 0.04 grams
    • Carbohydrates: 0 grams
    • Fiber: 0 grams
    • Sugar: 0.13 grams

Royal jelly contains only trace amounts of other vitamins and minerals.  Notice the sugar content is low at .13 grams.

Research has found a number of potential health benefits to royal jelly:

    • Antibacterial Properties
    • Antiviral Properties (Studies have shown royal jelly has been an alternative treatment against herpes virus)
    • Diabetes Management (Has shown to improve glycemic status, lipid profiles and oxidative stress)
    • Menopause Support (Royal jelly may help to relieve symptoms associated with menopause)

The BEST feature here is for the skin:

    • Collagen Production

Royal jelly is a popular ingredient in skin care products, and the research supports its use as collagen enhancer. By boosting collagen production in the skin, royal jelly is known to protect skin against the effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Because royal jelly is so potent, you should consult with your doctor before combining with any other supplement.

    Allergies

As a warning royal jelly can also create complications for people with certain medical conditions or allergies. Some allergic reactions could include contact dermatitis to anaphylaxis. Royal jelly can also react with other medications you are taking. Consult your healthcare provider before adding royal jelly to your diet in order to rule out any potential symptoms. Be aware when introducing royal jelly to your diet and discontinue use if you experience an allergic reaction. Also, the effects of royal jelly on someone who is pregnant or breast-feeding are not clear. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you may want to use caution with this ingredient.

    What is Propolis?

Propolis is a mixture of beeswax, plant sap, and honeybees’ natural enzymes — and it plays an important role in keeping beehives in one piece. Sometimes propolis is called bee glue, it is an important material for honeybee hives. Propolis also seems to help keep beehives pest-free by preventing fungus and microbes from growing. There is more to propolis than its use as a bee-based building material.

Studies have shown that propolis may have some significant health benefits, both as an oral supplement and as a topical treatment. Propolis provides micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Propolis is an excellent source of certain polyphenols that can be referred to as flavonoids. The flavonoids from propolis function as antioxidants.

    Other health benefits of propolis:

    • Decreased risk of cancer (due to the antioxidant properties)
    • Reduced ulcers (can also help solve internal problems as a supplement)  Studies have shown that consuming propolis, with or without honey, can help reduce the symptoms of gastritis and peptic ulcers  significantly.
    • Reduced inflammation (Some studies suggest that propolis has anti-inflammatory properties)
    • Controls blood sugar levels (Trials show that propolis supplements may significantly reduce fasting blood glucose levels)
    • Decreased risk of anemia Propolis is rich in B vitamins, which are considered essential micronutrients  Adding propolis to your diet can help you reduce your risk of a B-complex deficiency and associated anemia.

    Allergies

This bee product does not appear to carry any significant health risks.

There seems to be no recommended daily minimum or maximum intake for propolis. Propolis supplements are not regulated. Regardless of the dosage, you are still getting a healthy amount of polyphenols from these supplements.

It is not necessary to consume propolis supplements to get more propolis in your diet. By adding more honey to your daily diet, you are  consuming propolis in small amounts. Raw honey and honeycomb are more likely to include propolis than filtered honey because propolis functions as a way of sealing the comb.

    My personal experience-

Just a little story time on my own personal beliefs with supplements.

I got into propolis a few years back and wasn’t even aware of its properties.  I bought it at the time as I was at a business that sold local honey and all things bees.  I was like, let me buy this propolis and try it out.  To be honest it did not taste amazing and my dosage said to take about 3 times a week.  I started taking the propolis and I noticed I felt good as if preventing me from getting sick.  I then had a dental surgery and was making sure to take the propolis. Because it is full of vitamins and minerals I knew that the propolis was very healing.  Yes my dental surgery healed nicely.

Why element Lufu Bee Pearl Powder

  • What Is Tallow & How Tallow Benefits Your Skin??

What Is Tallow & How Tallow Benefits Your Skin??

The famous hype across the internet these days is TALLOW!!!  What is tallow? Where does it come from?  Why are people putting it on their skin?  What are it’s benefits?  In this post I will attempt to answer these questions and explain in detail the benefits of tallow and your skin.

    What is tallow

Tallow is rendered (melted) beef fat.  What is rendered?  When the raw fat of the beef is cooked until it turns into a hot liquid getting any bacteria out and from there it turns into a solid at room temperature. In the tallow world, as there are other forms of tallow such as pork, sheep, and goat to name a few, beef has the most nutrients. Grass fed beef is going to have more nutrients then grain fed beef.  If we remember learning about vitamins the fat soluble ones are found near the liver and fatty tissue.  This is where the best tallow comes from.  Now what vitamins are we finding there?  Vitamin A, D, K, E and B12.  Note these vitamins when you use tallow as a cream on your face are going into your skin cells.  Your body will recognize this as food for the skin.

    History

Beef tallow has a history that dates back thousands of years. As early as 2,000 years ago, ancient civilizations like the Egyptians and Mesopotamians relied on beef tallow for various survival needs. Tallow was a byproduct of cattle domestication, providing the population with a source of fuel, nutrition,  and preservation.

During the medieval era, the use of tallow flourished. Tallow was a vital part of daily life in homes, castles, and monasteries. In medieval dishes, tallow was used for frying meats, adding flavor to stews, and even making crusts for pies. Its high smoke point made it a reliable choice for cooking in a time when vegetable oil did not exist.

In ancient cooking, tallow served as a primary cooking fat, used for its ability to withstand high heat. It was commonly used for frying, roasting, and preserving meats. Tallow was also used for making soap during the Middle Ages. Soap made from beef tallow produced a solid lather and was used for both personal hygiene and  laundry cleaning. In addition, tallow candles were the choice for lighting, as they were more affordable than candles made from beeswax. Candle makers thrived in many European cities with tallow candles being a common product sold in many markets.

    Breakdown of nutrients in tallow

    1. Natural Minerals
    2. Conjungated Linoleic Acid-Natural Anti Inflammatory Properties
    3. Palmitoleic Acid(Omega 7) – Skins Basic Building Block
    4. Palm Acid – Improves Protective Barrier (Acid Mantle) of Skin
    5. Stearic Acid-Repairs Skin and Improves Suppleness of Skin
    6. Cholesterol which runs your hormones and helps you skin with nutrients

For the added break down of vitamin properties A, D, E, & K found naturally in tallow

    • Vitamin A: Promotes cell turnover and reduces signs of aging

    • Vitamin D: Supports healing and skin repair

    • Vitamin E: Acts as an antioxidant, protects skin from environmental damage

    • Vitamin K: Helps reduce dark spots, scars, and redness

This list is giving you the breakdown of the nutrients in tallow and how they all help the skin.  But tallow is also used to cook with.  So all the nutrients you are reading about for your skin apply to your internal body if you were to consume tallow.  As I always say in skincare if you are getting an internal boost in nutrients and minerals it will show on your skin from the inside.  I personally have cooked with tallow and love it for cooking.

    1. Anti-Ageing- the vitamins and nutrients in tallow help reduce the fine lines and wrinkles which help promote a more youthful appearance

    5. No Synthetics as tallow is a natural product it works as an excellent emollient that locks moisture in the skin keeping you hydrated
    6. Free From Harmful Additives-being this is a natural product there are no synthetics which can cause allergies.  Tallow is all natural and no chemical fragrances

    How It Works

So why this product and the ingredients works so well?  I want to talk about chirally correct for a few minutes.  What is chirally correct?  I will try and explain it in simple terms…..

I worked for a skincare brand that promoted chirally correct with their ingredients.  Essentially all the molecules in the ingredients go into a spin trap. Meaning the healthy molecules stay in the ingredient and the unhealthy spin out. A healthy molecule to the skin spins to the right.  The cells in your body also spin to the right thus allowing your skin the most absorption of the ingredients.  So when a product line is chirally correct you are absorbing the product.  Most skincare brands the molecules spin to the left which leaves the product sitting on top of the skin not absorbing in. This is why when you start to use a new product and it can take more than 30 days to notice a difference.  It is because your skin renews itself every 28 days.  If you start with a new product, yes you’ll notice a difference after a month but a chirally correct product you will notice within about 5 uses a change in skin.  It is because your skin is getting the best nutrient and absorption rate.

Another way to explain it is that every molecule in an ingredient has two sides.  The most healthy molecules are filtered through a spin trap.  If a company doesn’t put their ingredients through the spin trap then your getting both sides of the molecules which isn’t as high quality of an ingredient and your skin and body will not recognize it. The absorption wont be there.  Why I love tallow is because you could literally consume it.  It is food for the skin.  Your skin will absorb it and utilize it along with all the vitamins tallow provides. I’m going to add two companies that I love using their products and they are chirally correct.  The one skincare line that first taught me about chirally correct is Arcona. The other skincare line that you can find chirally correct products is called Skin Perfection.  Both of these skincare lines I love their products (not sponsored).  I will ad links here.

    Why element Lufu Tallow Cream

Our tallow cream is formulated with clean ingredients.  We take pride that our tallow comes from grass fed beef.  Our ingredient list and breakdown is grass fed & finished beef tallow, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic golden jojoba oil, organic lemongrass essential oil, and organic lavender essential oil.

ORGANIC EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL PROPERTIES – Olive oil is packed with healthy vitamins, fats, and antioxidants, and these components can contribute to healthier-looking skin. Olive oil moisturizes skin by locking in moisture, and its antioxidants can help to improve signs of aging.

ORGANIC GOLDEN JOJOBA OIL PROPERTIES – Organic gold jojoba oil has very similar properties as natural
skin sebum. That is why jojoba oil is quickly absorbed and does not leave an oily film on the skin.  The golden part of jojoba oil is from the highest quality golden seeds of Simmondsia Chinensis seeds cold-pressed. Unlike other skincare oils, the structure of jojoba oil is very similar to the natural oils of our skin. Which means it not only moisturizes, but absorbs faster than other oils.

ORGANIC LEMONGRASS ESSENTIAL OILS PROPERTIES – Research has shown that lemongrass essential oil has powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and astringent abilities.  Wanted to include this powerful essential oil in the product to help with a therapeutic scent as well as helping balance the product.

ORGANIC LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL PROPERTIES – Lavender oil can be a gentle way to treat acne due to its ability to kill bacteria. Lavender essential oil is also gentle enough to help heal eczema and dry skin and lavenders soothing properties can also help with wound healing.  Lavender has also been known to promoted the growth of collagen and boost the tissue remodeling of the skin.

All of the ingredients in this blend are made to help you lock in moisture and help your skin receive the best nutrients with the tallow but also not feel to heavy on the skin.  Its a perfect balancing blend of tallow in combination with natural skin balancing oils.

    Conclusion

When you are using element Lufu tallow as a moisturizer you are getting more than a three in one product.  Literally can be used as an eye cream, neck cream, can use on your lips, can use on your elbows, heals and knees.  Can essentially be used on your body to hydrate.  Definitely worth the investment. Hands down you will notice within days of use a lighter depth to your wrinkles. With continued use the wrinkles will definitely be less pronounced if not gone.  If you are a nail technician this is a great product to use for massage of hands and feet.
